About Us

The Research Group in Biomedical Sciences and Technologies (GRSTB for Groupe de recherche en sciences et technologies biomédicales), financed by the FRQS (Fonds de la recherche du Québec - Santé), is a multidisciplinary group of researchers in the field of Biomedical Engineering. The GRSTB has 34 regular members on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique and University of Montreal, and in the research centers of affiliated hospitals.

The group's research programs mainly fall under the following thematic axes, without being restricted to them: 1) biomaterials and biomechanics, 2) imaging and signal processing, 3) nanomedicine and regenerative medicine.

The mission of the GRSTB is to promote emerging research areas in these thematic axes, to create synergy and collaboration among its members, and to reinforce links between campus laboratories, hospital laboratories and clinics, and industrial partners.

The 34 regular members and 19 associate members are mainly from the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering at Ecole Polytechnique, as well as from the Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science and Operational Research, Mathematics and Statistics, Pharmacology, Physiology, Radiology, Radio-Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, Surgery, and the School of Optometry at the Université de Montréal. Many GRSTB members are also members of the research centers in the following hospitals: Hôtel-Dieu, Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Notre-Dame, Sacré-Coeur, Sainte-Justine and Saint-Luc. The GRSTB has two researchers from the NRC Industrial Materials Institute, one from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University, and two from ETS (Department of Automated Production, Department of Software Engineering and IT).
