About Us

The Biomedical Science and Technology Research Group (GRSTB), funded by the FRSQ (Fonds de la recherche en santé du Québec), is an interdisciplinary group of researchers with a Biomedical Engineering focus on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique, the University of Montreal and associated Hospital Research Centres.

The GRSTB has 33 full members and 20 associate members, mainly from the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics and Mechanical Engineering at Ecole Polytechnique, as well as from the Departments of Chemistry, Computer Science and Operational Research, Mathematics and Statistics, Pharmacology, Physiology, Radiology, Radio-Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, Surgery, and the School of Optometry at the Université de Montréal. Many GRSTB members are also members of the research centers in the following hospitals: Hôtel-Dieu, Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Notre-Dame, Sacré-Coeur, Sainte-Justine and Saint-Luc. The GRSTB has two researchers from the NRC Industrial Materials Institute, one from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University, and one from the Department of Automated Production at ETS.

All full members work within at least one of the two main axes of biomedical applications of the GRSTB: 1) Musculoskeletal and 2) Cardiovascular. Each member is also an expert in one or several of the following technological approaches: 1) Biomaterials, 2) Biomechanics, 3) Electrophysiology, 4) Imaging and 5) Nanotechnology and Microsystems.

The mandate of the GRSTB is to promote emerging research areas in these research domains, to create synergy and collaboration amongst its members, and to reinforce links between campus laboratories, hospital laboratories and clinics, and industrial partners.
