Special Issue on Micro fuel cells: materials and electrocatalysis

Call for Papers
Micro fuel cells are among the most promising energy devices that could revolutionize the clean power sources. A micro fuel system is not a downscaling of a macroscopic fuel cell system, but it is a new concept which exhibits a desired function and may take advantages of new features available or new principles of transduction (as an example, the surface/volume ratio is very important). Its development is based on a lot of scientific and technological challenges which include the integration of nanomaterials and nanostructures in very confined spaces such as micro-channels manufactured by MEMS technology or other substrate technologies. Advanced materials and nanotechnology provide enormous opportunities for the development of high performing micro fuel cell systems which can power a variety of portable electronics and implantable medical devices.
This special issue of the Journal of New Materials for Electrochemical Systems is devoted to these various topics of micro fuel cells.
We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the strategies for the development of high performing micro fuel cells (FCs), including Hydrogen FCs, Acidic FCs, Alcohol FCs, Bio FCs (enzymatic and bacterial) and others. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
-
New Materials
-
New Electrolytes
-
Nanostructured anode/cathode electrodes and electroacatalysis
-
Micro fuel cell system performance and durability
-
New concepts of micro fuel cells
-
Demonstrated applications
-
Possible applications and future directions
