Abstract: The International Fuel Cells’ cell stack concept has specialized design characteristics to address the difficulties in removing liquid water from a PEM cell. Product water is removed by two mechanisms: 1) Transport of liquid water through the porous bipolar plates into the coolant.
2) Evaporation into the reactant gas streams until the gas streams are fully saturated.

Keywords: PEM, bipolar plates, passive water management, thermal management, Humidification, air utilization, fuel utilization
