Phase sensitive surface plasmon resonance optical biosensor
Nowaday, different SPR biosensor are commercilaized and serve to biomedical application like protein-protein interaction or cell detection. But, new biomedical applications have came like short drugs protein detection or detection of low concentration of pathogen (bacteria and viruses) and conventional SPR biosensor doesn't give enough sensitivity to detect this bio objects.
One solution to this lack of sensitivity is the optical phase detection under SPR condition. The phase response is sharper and sensitivity is 3 orders of magnitude higher compared to the detection of amplitude.
In our approach, the optical biosensors developped present sensitivity in terms of refractive index unit equal to 10-7 RIU. This project consist in the development of phase sensitive optical setup and integrate it into an SPR scheme. In addition of that, collaborations with biochemist from Polytechnique de Montreal and University of Toronto enable to test our setup with modern application like bacteria detection and interaction study between small proteins.
